Free Heroes 2 (HOMM2 on Android)

I was really recently surprised to learn the classic fantasy turn-based strategy game, Heroes of Might and Magic 2, had become available to play on the Android operating system. I have a lot of good memories of this game from my childhood so I had it downloaded and installed in a matter of minutes.

Installation
Installing HOMM2 on your Android phone is no problem at all.

  1. You simply install the Free Heroes 2 game from the Android Market.
  2. Launch the game.
  3. Follow the steps to download and install the additional files required.
  4. I recommend downloading all the offered data files for the best experience. I tried installing the files from an ISO of the original disc but it didn't work. With the demo it was painless.

The Good

  • Endless replay value through skirmish mode.
  • A tonne of maps.
  • Free in terms of no cost.
  • Free as in GPL free.
  • Enjoy a great gaming classic on your mobile any time any where.
  • Excellent performance.
  • Stable.

The Bad

  • No campaign mode.
  • Doesn't maintain settings such as sound and speed.
  • There are some missing features such as some spells don't work.
Free Heroes 2 is a great port. Makes me wonder why the game concept hasn't been recycled onto Android natively. This will be a staple on my Android phones for the foreseeable future.

Late night thinking...

We all have those those thoughts, usually late at night in my experience, where you've spent some time on introvertive thought and have a moment of what seems clarity. Some times it's a great insight. Other times when you revise your thoughts it's a straight WTF!

I think of these as 3AM thoughts. Ideas that come to you from the back of your mind clearly expressing concepts you have wrestled with yet come to no conclusion on.

I call them 3AM thoughts because when I was younger it was late night/early morning I'd have these kinds of ideas and it would lead me to trying to write the ideas coming to mind.

Anyway here's an idea that came to me recently. Love to hear what you think thereof.

Life is easy. A good life is not. Enduring the human condition with even a partial awareness makes existence a trial for those minds which seek an advancement of the experience for all.

Duty

Here's a poem I wrote a couple years back.

It outlines what I felt were the obligations of a son (or daughter) at that time. It's written from my perspective so only mentions a man's duties but all still are the same for women.

Let me know what you think.

Duty

The duty of a son
Is to serve the family
Not just by providing
But by honoring
By building up the family name

The duty of a man
Is to care for his kin
Not just by protecting
But by guiding
By cultivating knowledge and resolution in his brethren

The duty of a husband
Is to honour his wife
Not just by loving
But by understanding
By encouraging his beloved to achieve

The duty of a father
Is to raise his children well
Not just by teaching
But by instilling strength and wisdom
By causing his descendants to be greater than he

These are the duties
That must be accepted
By the son
If the testimony of time
Is to remember him
As a good man

Humans Are Evolved

Human beings are an evolved species.

We appear to have developed a capacity for thinking that has enabled us to become so much more than the monkeys we once were.

Yet we fail ourselves.

Everyday on the macro scale of continual pollution, indoctrination, economic depression, war, famine, technological and psychological inhibition and more.

Everyday on the micro scale of rivalry, greed, health, education, xenophobia and still more.

We make deliberate actions everyday knowing they will have a negative effect on our selves, our species, our planet and all life that dwell thereon.

We inhibit our continued evolution of the mind, body and soul.

How so you can see in your own life.

You can see in the decisions you make everyday.

The decisions that you know are not good for you, or for your loved ones, or your community or for anyone other than yourself.

A seemingly simple saying from a man I admire goes like this:

"Knowing is not enough. We must apply.

Willing is not enough. We must do."

If we practised such a simple ideal we would again see our species and societies evolve and none know what we might become.

Do you think you're ready for Evolution?

You are making history everyday

If you live long enough, the strength of your arms will fail you.

Your wisdom will fail as your wits leave you.

Yet your legacy will remain.

Even if forgotten your actions cannot be undone.

So live knowing that your every move leaves a mark upon existence itself.

You may not know it but you are making history everyday.

Go The Mighty Power!

Go The Mighty Power!

We didn't do good this year. We had our worse ever. But we managed to salvage some pride tonight. Two straight kicks away from a Wooden Spoon is not much. But it's something.

Something to carry over to next year. Not just the new players showing promise. Nor the established players returning to form. But rather the want to win. The effort it takes. The feeling when you win.

Lets see more of it next year.
